What are Roost’s Eco-credentials?
It goes without saying that at Roost we’re passionate about our environment and the environments that we sit our creations in. This means that all the timber we use to clad our pods with carries the forest stewardship council (fsc) stamp of approval. In addition, the super-insulative panels (sips) keep heating costs to a minimum and the low e glazing systems help to reduce heat loss whilst allowing a room to be warmed by any sunshine. Many of our clients opt for a sedum roof as not only does it look pretty but also benefits from low visual impact (particularly popular with those with near neigbours) as well as attracting a bit of local flora and fauna. And if this is still not enough for you eco-warriors out there, the Roost eco options don’t stop there: Photovoltaic, solar voltaic and wind power are available as add-ons subject to site survey.
Will my roost require planning permission?
In general, planning consent is not required for any of our roosts as long as certain criteria are met. If the proposed site of the roost is at least 5m from the main property, takes up no more than 50% of the garden, is 1m from any boundary and is less than 30m² in footprint then consent is not required. There are exceptions to this guideline for properties in Conservation areas and areas of outstanding beauty. It is always advisable to contact your local authority to clarify your particular position regarding the installation of one of our roosts.
What services can be provided to my roost?
The electrics within our roosts are all certified part P and feed back to a consumer unit fitted with MCB’s (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and a main RCD (Residual Current Device). The plumbing within the roost is installed within the marked prices. The main services, both electrical, water and sewerage to the roost from the main dwelling or source is not included in the marked prices. The cost of getting a mains supply to the roost would depend on various factors such as distance from the mains source, the nature of the ground and the ease of installing suitable cabling, piping or drainage. A quotation can be given for this work after a site visit.
How long will I have to wait for my roost?
Once we’ve received official confirmation of your order, your roost will take around six weeks to be painstakingly built to your specifications in our Devon based workshops and a further two weeks to be delivered and assembled on site by our team of Roost experts. Please note that for bespoke roosts, a unique lead-time will be discussed and finalised with you prior to construction.
